Synopsis
The Beer Drinker’s Dictionary is part dictionary part reference book for beer enthusiasts. Formerly the Beer Drinker’s Bible, this update and revision contains additional chapters and content. The opening chapter describes various beer styles commonly seen today. This is followed by a chapter on beer flavors and aromas; it provides examples of both the desirable and undesirable characteristics of beer and a basic explanation of how these are produced. The following chapters cover various beer names both by global region and those of a historical nature. Chapter Four reaches into beer-based mixed drinks. Some of these are in use today while others represent both the arcane and other drinks that have fallen from favor. It includes the basic composition of those drinks for people who may want to replicate these brews. The following chapters describe the wide range of beer vessels that have been used over the Centuries. Yet another chapter revisits the type and character of Inns, Taverns, Saloons, and Bars. Finally, the book’s last chapter is a compilation of favorite beer and drinking sayings and quotes.
Author Bio
Gregg Smith writes and lectures on Beer and Beer History. He is a Grand Master Beer Judge II, and has judged at the Great American Beer Fest since 1994 and the World Beer Cup since 1998. He serves as president of the North American Brewers Association which has raised over 1.7 million dollars for charity; its main event, the Mountain Brewers Beer Fest, is the First Saturday in June in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Lisa Smith has published scores of articles about beer in a variety of magazines. She is a certified beer judge and has judged at the Great American Beer Fest for 20 years and the World Beer Cup for more than 15 years. She is also a Vice-President of the North American Brewers Association.
