During her formative years, Dr. Karen L. Smith was a competition gymnast and a member of the U.S. Junior Olympics Tae Kwon Do squad. She earned the title of National Grand Champion of Women’s Tae Kwon Do Black Belts in 1989 and Miss T.E.E.N Kansas in 1991.

Dr. Smith graduated with a double undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas in Psychology and Human Biology. She subsequently completed a four-year Podiatry curriculum at Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery in Miami, Florida, graduating with top honors. Dr. Smith also obtained a Masters Degree in Biomedical Sciences while at Barry University. Thereafter she completed three years of specialized training in foot and ankle surgery at one of the nation’s top residency programs, Highlands Foot and Ankle Institute in Denver, CO.
