Synopsis

Everyone assumes compensation expertise means you just run a bunch of numbers and do analysis. That’s only partially true. It’s as much art as it is science. There’s a lot of judgment and independent decision-making involved, and yeah, it’s a bit of analysis, but it’s not what you think it is.

Don’t let the math scare you. In his book Pay Matters, author David Weaver promises to demystify everything, including the numbers, to help you blend the science and art of compensation to become a compensation expert. He teaches readers how to analyze every job in their organization so they can find its equivalent in the external market, and he teaches how to use that information to incentivize employees to get the best high-performers money can buy.

If you follow the advice in this book, you’ll develop an infrastructure to pay people what they’re worth, and that includes how they’re valued inside of your organization, as well as what the competitive market says about their job and their individual skills. If you put all of those components together, you get an organization full of happy people who are paid what they deserve—a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work..
