Political Torture and Resiliency: One Man's Story
Book Description
This book is an interview of a man who survived a prolonged political torture in Ethiopia. Following the interview, I did research on his symptoms of PTSD and compared them to the symptoms of PTSD shown by women who experienced physical abuse at the hand of their partners, as well as PTSD symptoms shown by children who were sexually abused. I compared and contrasted the symptoms, and took a look especially at what factors were critical in predicting a positive outcome; in demonstrating resiliency. The most dominant factor for resiliency was a sense of believing in a higher power or greater purpose, not necessarily being religious, but having faith.
Author bio
When I was twelve years old I was first hospitalized with anorexia. I didn't even know what the word meant, I just knew that I would not eat again unless someone made me. I was soon running the group therapy and enamored with psychology. From that day forward I never wavered in my decision to become a psychologist, My career path got me through many teenage struggles, and I earned my doctorate with a 4.0 GPA. I specialized in trauma and had a very successful private practice for over thirteen years. Then, COVID. I decided to train in advanced yoga and meditation, not only because it transformed my life but because I wanted to pass this onto clients. I also became certified in life, wellness, and spiritual coaching. Tula soul became my new business I ran from my home office. It was no longer about money or ego. I wanted to help women find balance, use their voice (so often silenced) and take up their rightful space.

Also, I wanted time to read. Books were my other savior growing up in a home that was chaotic. I could lose myself in characters and pretend I lived inside. Plus, I wanted to write, and maybe, just maybe, publish like I always dreamed of. I began writing poetry, of which I have hundreds and hundreds stored away. And I went back to the memoir I've been writing for years. I rediscovered the joy of writing.
