Dr. Sharon T. Hinton RN-BC, MSN, DMIN is a faith community nurse specialist for the International Parish Nurse Resource Center, a faith community nurse/health advocate educator, coordinator, mentor and consultant, and the Executive Director of Rural Nurse Resource, Inc.
Sharon is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing Speakers Bureau and speaks nationally about many topics including faith community nursing, health ministry and spiritual journaling for personal and professional growth. She specializes in new health ministry start-ups and network development.
Sharon began her nursing career as a diploma graduate of the East Tennessee Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. She completed a Bachelors of Science in Nursing Degree at Texas Tech University School of Nursing and a Master of Science Degree in Parish Nursing as well as a Masters Certificate in Pastoral Studies at Saint Joseph's College of Maine. Sharon has completed a Doctor of Ministry degree in Global Health and Wholeness at Saint Paul's School of Theology in Kansas City. As a certified “Journal to the Self” instructor through the Center for Journal Therapy, Sharon teaches a wide variety of journaling techniques and is currently completing coursework to become a certified journal facilitator. She is also currently completing requirements to become a spiritual director.
Sharon is the author of the "Nurse in the Church" column for the Journal of Christian Nursing, the Spiritual Reflections Journal for Nurses and Health Advocates, and the Spiritual Reflections Journal: Health Ministry Edition, along with many other articles, devotions, and continuing education materials as well as stories for Chicken Soup for the Nurses Soul: Second Dose, Chicken Soup for the Soul: Food & Love, and Chicken Soup for the Soul: Inspiration for Nurses.
