Tell us a bit about you. What kinds of writing do you do and what do you do for work?
I write nonfiction on two primary topics: Marketing How-to and Personal Empowerment. This is what I do for work.
The writing leads to working with local business owners to help them build stronger businesses, and a legacy for their families. It leads to speaking with young adults and their parents about how to be connected and feel effective. And it gives me the feeling of accomplishment.
What are your publishing-related goals?
They are threefold:
- Build the Getting Happy Series as a continuation of the work started by the Chicken Soup series
- Build a generation of entrepreneurs – not business owners, but people who are entrepreneurial
- End teen suicide
What motivated you to want to run a local chapter for NFAA and what do you hope to accomplish with your chapter?
Because the world is changed by individuals.
My hope is to build leaders who embrace the 8 personal empowerment practices and pass them on to others. My plan is to help those leaders build more NFAA chapters so we grow together; our businesses, our relationships, our lives.
What advice would you offer to fellow writers?
You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help enough other people get what they want. – Zig Ziglar.
As a man thinketh, so shall he be. – James Allen.
Brighten the corner where you are. – Ira D. Ogden.
I’m not into reinventing the wheel. – Conrad Hall
Please list any favorite books, tools, or resources you would recommend for fellow writers.
Favorite books – Wow. This is a long list. Topping the list is Psycho-Cybernetics by Dr. Maxwell Maltz (and the updated version by Dan Kenndy). It’s more valuable than How To Win Friends and Influence People.
Resource: Writing.com is an incredible site. Offline, reading is your most important resource. Good writers are readers.
Tool: 1 Click Book Creation – a word template that automatically does all the interior design for a manuscript. Marvelous tool. http://conradrefers.me/bookcreation
What do you do for fun?
Reading, hiking, camping, cycling, time with friends. One day I’ll get another dog. I very much enjoy playing with, and training, a dog.
