What is your book about? I interviewed 12 people whose expertise is helping people choose careers. The contributors describe strategies to find or create career paths that fit your interests, values, personality, and strengths.
What inspired you to write your book? I was curious how other career experts were helping clients to increase career happiness, so I decided to ask them.
Can you describe your writing process? My process was interview-intensive and it was quite fun to do. This is definitely an enjoyable way to write a book.
How did you come to do what you’re doing today? I was working in the software industry in a project-management-type role, when I started doing volunteer work for a community-based employment counseling center in Austin, TX. The volunteer work inspired me to become a full-time psychologist and career counselor.
Can you describe a typical day in your life? I balance my time between managing my company and counselors/coaches who work for me, working with clients directly, and writing for my blog and my next book.
What do you most enjoy about what you do? Any time something I’ve done helps someone enjoy their work life more, I am happy.
Are there any people and/or books that have inspired you along your journey? Studs Terkel, Parker J. Palmer, J.K. Rowling.
Can you share something that people may be surprised to learn about you? My first job was selling shoes and I was really good at it.
What’s next for you? I am working on a second book about vocational clarity.
Is there anything else you would like to add? Thank you for interviewing me!
