What is your book about?
Getting started, staying motivated, and having fun with your exercise. Lots of tools, apps, websites, checklists, inspirational stories, funny situations, and resources to get you moving.
What inspired you to write your book?
I would spend so much time before and after client sessions just talking to my clients about things they can do to stay inspired along with tools, apps, books, podcasts, magazines etc. that they could use to help keep them motivated to be more active on the days I was not with them. After spending so much time doing this, I decided I should just write a book and have it all in one place for my clients to reference any time they wanted.
Can you describe your writing process?
It was quite easy. First, I decided my three main talking points. I chunked out the titles: Getting started, staying motivated, and then having fun. I would talk to my clients and when they told me something they loved or something they tried, I researched more and categorized them to the section it belonged. It’s mostly the stories from clients and the advice they would seek from me that wrote this entire book.
How did you come to do what you’re doing today?
I quit my corporate sales job to pursue my career in personal training and behavioral change. I would chat with women at the gym during the day, and when one of them said to me, “I just wish someone would come to my house and work out with me; I hate the gym!” I knew I would start my traveling personal training business and I would find other places to get exercise besides the gym.
Can you describe a typical day in your life?
I like to start my day with a devotional and I write a quick three things I am grateful for in my journal. Then I grab breakfast and get the kids off to school. I meet with clients until 3:00 p.m. when I go to the gym or find something active to do outdoors before the kids get home and things get crazy! My nights calm down and I make sure to have my chamomile tea and 10-minute meditation/prayer/stretch session before bed.
What do you most enjoy about what you do?
It’s a true joy to help people find their passion for movement. It’s amazing to be able to witness so many amazing women grow and discover that they have the strength to achieve anything they want out of life.
Are there any people and/or books that have inspired you along your journey?
I was inspired a long time ago by the book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill and I love anything that Tony Robbins is a part of.
Can you share something that people may be surprised to learn about you?
I do not like social situations with lots and lots of people. I would rather an intimate, deep conversation with a few close friends than high-level small talk with many people. My outgoing nature leads many to believe that I am a true extrovert but I think I am an introvert at heart.
What’s next for you?
I would love to provide more online programs. I also have a vision for live workshops, and women’s retreats in fun places.
