What services do you offer?
I ghostwrite memoirs, business leadership, thought leadership, and self-help books.
Who are your ideal clients?
Entrepreneurs, creatives, and CEOs who want to share their stories, life lessons, including the ups and downs, to entertain, educate, and inspire readers.
How did you get started in your business?
Upon graduation in 2001, I was hired by one of my university professors to edit his books. I then applied to at least 50 companies (magazines, newspapers, lifestyle blogs, and publishing houses) and accepted a few part-time jobs before being hired by a publishing house. Over four years, I worked my way up until I was the managing editor of the Current Events and Biographies division. I then spent the next two years as a Clinical Editor at a local healthcare company and realized that was not where I needed to be. So, in 2009, I resigned and began my freelancing career. Fifteen years later, I’m still happily self-employed.
What are some common issues you help your clients with?
My clients have fantastic stories but don’t have the time, the industry knowledge, or the confidence, to write a book themselves. Some clients struggle with OCD, ADD, ADHD, or other physical or mental differences that make it difficult to sit at a desk for hours on end, but they are incredible storytellers!
Can you recommend any books or resources to other members?
Anne Lamott’s Bird by Bird is a wonderful book about the art of writing and living well.
Can you offer one “pro tip” to our members?
Reach out to connections you haven’t spoken with in a while, not only to see if they might have work for you, but to see if you can help them in any way. (Think of all your LinkedIn connections!) I’ve been able to make some great connections between former clients this way, and that’s one more way you can add value to your clients’ lives.
What do you enjoy most about what you do?
I love hearing people’s stories and learning how they overcame difficulties, persevered through hard times, and created a more beautiful and intentional life for themselves. Each story I work on inspires me in multiple ways.
What’s next for you?
I’d love to do more teaching, more workshops and podcasts, and speak on more panels. I truly enjoy conversations around all things publishing.
