About Carla King
Carla King is the founder of Self-Publishing Boot Camp, a series of educational books and workshops that help independent authors publish their books. She is a frequent speaker at writing conferences, a consultant, and industry advisor. In 2018, Self-Publishing Boot Camp will be offered as an online course along with the 4th edition of her Self-Publishing Boot Camp Guide for Authors.
Carla also runs the self-publishing and technology track for the San Francisco Writers Conference, is the publishing technology contributor to the Bookworks blog, and founder of Author Friendly, a consulting service that helps authors create a complete and detailed publishing path.
A former technical writer and avid adventure traveler, Carla self-published her first book in 1995 and, in 2005, started helping other authors by teaching, blogging, and speaking on the topic. Since then, she has reviewed hundreds of products geared to the independent author. Those reviews are the basis for her Consumer’s Guide to Publishing Tools and Services, a free, constantly updated resource for the community.
As publisher of Misadventures Media, Carla speaks to the adventure travel industry about writing and publishing. She publishes her own books along with a selected group of other authors under the imprint. These include her upcoming Fearless series of motorcycle misadventures, guidebooks to Baja, Mexico, where she lives part-time, anthologies, and a number of how-to guides from choosing the right motorcycle to cooking in camp.
