Choosing Life: My father's journey in film from Hollywood to Hiroshima
Book Description
A memoir/history about following in my father's footsteps to Hiroshima. His crew took the only color film footage of the aftermath of the atomic bombings -- focusing on the human suffering. The government suppressed the vivid footage for decades but it is now accessible in the National Archives. His last wish was to have his ashes scattered at Ground Zero in Hiroshima. I went there and stayed for a year (1987-88) coming to know survivors who remember him filming them in 1946. The book braids my account of discovering the story with the first-person narratives of my father and the survivors.
